The Windows Server 2022 Solution for ADATUM Deployment and Management Documentation outlines a comprehensive, on-premises IT solution for ADATUM. This project focuses on designing and implementing a centralized network environment using Windows Server 2022, leveraging built-in tools and features to augment efficiency, security, and availability without relying on third-party solutions. All solutions herein are tools and features directly installed and configured within Windows Server 2022. The on-premises solution outlined throughout this documentation assumes the professional installer has a basic working knowledge of general IT systems, including installing applications and using Wizards, navigating UI elements and drop-down boxes, basic TCP/IP knowledge, and familiarity with configuring user accounts, group policies, and network permissions. This documentation provides step-by-step guidance for configuring essential services such as DHCP, DNS, and file sharing with additional considerations for future scalability (particularly regarding cloud redundancy).

The core objective of this deployment is to address the following requests, provided by ADATUM:

1. Establish a central domain structure, including the design and deployment of appropriate organizational unit(s) as provided by the organizational chart found below

2. File shares with appropriate permissions based on the above deployed organizational structure

   • Segregated file shares per department, with accessibility limited or locked to only their respective departments to ensure security and data integrity

3. Central update server with appropriate groups

4. Establish and deploy roaming profiles with redirected folders

   • Folders specifically to include Documents, Desktop and Favorites

5. Development of a comprehensive DNS plan

6. Establish a concept for future DHCP configuration(s), including scope and IP information

7. Print server and share controls

8. Backup and recovery plan(s) following industry-standard procedures and considerations

   • Redundancy and high availability to be considered
   • Cloud configuration(s) to be considered at a future date
     • Solutions will be cloud-conscious to simplify later cloud deployment if requested

9. Remote Access plan, including ADATUM VPN for employees to utilize outside of the company’s immediate environment

10. A basic naming convention for users, groups and devices to utilize

11. Monitoring solutions for the IT department to use to track infrastructure health and security auditing

12. All solutions herein to be first party only; third party solutions will not be covered during this documentation to ensure compatibility across all deployments.

Challenges and Risk Mitigation

Potential challenges may include misconfigured roles and features, Group Policies, untested software updates before deploying production workstations, and unforeseen hardware failures such as in the event of a natural disaster or a user-implied installation error. To mitigate these risks, the deployment follows a phased implementation approach, ensuring that each component is properly configured before full rollout. Backup solutions, including Windows Server Backup and industry-standard disaster recovery practices, further minimize downtime and data loss risks.
