Conlusion and Recommendation

The AdventureWorks project successfully demonstrated the design and partial implementation of a cloud-based data management solution using Amazon Web Services (AWS). Using two AWS EC2 instances running Ubuntu Server 22.04, we were able to set up an infrastructure that hosts the company’s database with MySQL and a web server to improve product accessibility and operational efficiency. The migration of the database was completed, and the foundational elements of the web application have been deployed, providing a significant improvement in data accessibility and reliability for AdventureWorks.

One key area for future improvement is enhancing the security of the database. While MySQL provides encryption capabilities, additional measures, such as encrypting data at rest and enabling multi-factor authentication for administrative access, would significantly enhance the solution’s security posture. Furthermore, implementing automated scaling for the web server and database would allow AdventureWorks to handle spikes in user traffic more effectively as the company grows. Additionally, it was noted that standard use of a critical password is being stored in plaintext format, which will be a focus of improvement immediately before production deployment.

In the next phase of the project, these improvements will be prioritized to ensure the system remains secure, scalable, and aligned with the company’s operational needs. Overall, this project lays a solid foundation for AdventureWorks to continue its digital transformation journey and leverage the full capabilities of AWS for future growth.
